Obama’s War: US Involvement in Afghanistan, Past, Present & Future - DemocracyNow.org

"President Obama is speaking before a joint session of Congress Tuesday night in what is being described as the first State of the Union address of his presidency. While the economy is expected to dominate the agenda, Obama will also talk about his top foreign policy initiative: the war in Afghanistan. Last week, Obama ordered an additional 17,000 US combat troops to Afghanistan. The new deployments will begin in May and increase the US occupation force to 55,000.

Be Aware: It's Conservative Budget Time

The Conservative Government is tabling their budget January 27th. It will outline how they see the next year. It could spell further cuts to the very things that we need to ensure a sustainable future. Please be sure to pay attention to what happens. It could also set of the next round of intense election or coalition talk if the liberals and NDP decide to stand up. However the scariest issue has been raised by the Green Party. They sent around the followning email:

5 Arrested in Cayuga, including 2 AW@L members, for blocking a road to Edwards Street Landfill

On Monday December 8th, five individuals were arrested in an attempt to stop garbage from being dumped at the Edwards Street Landfill in Cayuga. Two members of AW@L, Alex and Erik, as well as Darius and a friend from London, and an individual from 6 Nations were arrested. They are being held over night in jail and will have a bail hearing tuesday morning.

Today, Nov 11th, is the 90th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I, the war that was supposed to end ALL wars. Why is it that we are still fighting wars, occupying other nations? We seem to have forgotten the primary lesson of WWI, that one cannot achieve peace by fighting a war. The false assumption that war makes peace, which many people and most governments still cling to, is perpetuating the war cycle, feeding our culture of war.
