Policing and the criminalization of dissent around G20 activism has
intensified the challenges faced by community organizations and broader civil society networks devoted to the cause of social justice. This day-long conference will bring together activists, academics, students, and other members of th...e community to address these challenges, particularly as they manifest themselves in the Kitchener-Waterloo community. The event will include speakers, workshops and roundtables on issues such as civil rights violations, community responses to structural violence, silencing of political dissent within academic institutions, the relationship between journalism and democracy, the need for social healing and the task of social movement building in the post-G20 political landscape.
